Disney World increased its ticket prices today. For the first time, a single-day ticket to the Magic Kingdom costs more ($95) than a ticket to the other three theme parks ($90).
To give you an idea of how fast the ticket price has increased at the resort during the past 42 years, we decided to put it in a chart.
The price of admission has doubled since 2000, but this is nothing compared to the 1980s, when the single-day ticket price more than tripled. That binge helped fund what former Disney CEO Michael Eisner called the "Disney Decade." From 1988 until 1998, Disney added 10 resort hotels, Disney-MGM Studios and the Animal Kingdom.
What are the recent increases buying us? New Fantasyland, the largest addition to the Magic Kingdom since it opened in 1971, and maybe -- just maybe -- an Avatar-themed land at the Animal Kingdom.
