The park, is the fourth one to open in Walt Disney World. It is the largest Disney theme park in the world covering more than 400 acres. It houses about 1,500 animals representing 250 species and has more than 4 million trees, plants, shrubs, vines grasses and ferns.
The Disney Parks Blog listed a number of events for the anniversary including:
- An opening ceremony at the Tree of Life at 8:40 a.m., with Vice President of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Josh D’Amaro, Vice President of Animals, Science and Environment Dr. Jackie Ogden and Senior Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Joe Rohde.
- Special interactive activities that focus on animals and nature throughout the park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Artists and other vendors will be on Discovery Island selling their work.
