In the movie "Thor: The Dark World" Natalie Portman plays astrophysicist Jane Foster. And Marvel is hoping this will be an inspiration. Marvel is teaming up with the National Academy of Sciences and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., to inspire girls ages 14 and up, in grades 9-12, to explore future careers in science, technology, mathematics and engineering.
The teens have until Oct. 20 to enter the "Thor: The Dark World - Ultimate Mentor Adventure." Each applicant is to conduct interviews, participate in experiments and interact in various events with mentors
and then create a five minute video capturing their experience.
Ten winners will go to Los Angeles and go behind the scenes with scientists and engineers at Dolby. And on Nov. 8, 2013 will be recognized at the premiere screen of the their documentary short. The short will be shown at the El Capitan Theatre prior to the screening of Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" on the film's opening day.
